Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.
Proverbs 4:7

One of the principal goals common to human beings is getting stuff. Toys. Friends. Money and materiel possessions. Financial security. The list could go on. Truly life is about getting.

God counsels us that the principal thing to get is wisdom. In several places in Proverbs, the Lord tells us that wisdom is more valuable than gold and silver (Proverbs 8:10-11)! So in the midst of getting things, we are wise to make getting wisdom our principal pursuit.

God also tells us that the beginning of any true knowledge, wisdom, and understanding is the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 1:7).

It is revealing that so few are marked by any real fear of God. It is likewise revealing that most of humanity is marked by foolishness.

Be reminded that if you fear God and have any biblical wisdom, you are not better, only more blessed. The only reason any of us fears God, and has even a speck of His wisdom, is His grace.
